  • Ski trip 2013
Our annual ski trip will be held Friday March 1 through Sunday March 3

We will be skiing all day Saturday at Windham Mountain in upstate New York, and staying in heated cabins at a nearby Boy Scout camp (the same one we stayed at last year). Like last year, we will be offering ski lessons to anyone who wants them, offered through the Windham ski staff. You do NOT need to have prior skiing experience to take this trip, but unless you are "intermediate" in your abilities you must take a lesson.

We will also be testing Scouts on Snow Sports Merit Badge.

Please mark your calendars – this is usually a popular event and we are limited to 34 participants on a first-to-hand-in-permission-slip basis.

(If anyone wants to cabin-camp, but not ski, or we could arrange that, if we have adult volunteers to manage those boys who are not skiing.)

  • Klondike 2013
This year the Klondike is a one day event – we are participating in the Joyce Kilmer District Derby on Saturday, February 2 from 7am until 4pm at Thompson Park in Monroe/Jamesburg. More information at: http://joycekilmerdistrict.org/JK_klondike.htm

    • The registration fee is $10 per scout and $5 per adults (unless the adult wants a patch and then the fee is $10).
    • Please complete the emailed permission slip and turn it in by Thursday, January 17th.
    • Mrs. Graham will be collecting these at this upcoming Monday meeting or you may drop it off in the black basket on her front porch (see email for address).
Please review the cold weather camping clothing portion of our Winter Checklist.

Also, each participant will be responsible for bringing their own bag lunch.

Hope you can join in. This is after finals at PHS so hopefully some of the high school scouts may be able to participate.

  • Summer 2012: Ressica Falls, Boot and Paddle, Isle Royale National Park
Many spent an exciting two weeks at Ressica Falls Scout camp again this summer - always a scout favorite!

This year some of the older scouts went on Boot and Paddle hike and canoe trip during the first week at Ressica.

Six of our scouts and three leaders went hiking and camping trip through Isle Royale - a remote island national park right in the middle of Lake Superior. Many excellent pictures here.

Prepare for the next meeting:

We will be running merit badge workshops tonight. We will be offering:

- Bird Study (run by Ms. DiDonato)
- Scholarship (run by Ms. Rubin)
- Coin Collecting (run by Mr. Yalamanchili)
- American Heritage (run by Ms. Meyer)

For Bird Study: you should bring a pair of binoculars if you have a pair, pencils for sketching, a bird field guide if you have one. We will have a variety of song bird food for each badge participant to take home. You will need to build or install, a simple bird feeder at home and identify birds visiting it over Spring Break.

For Scholarship: You will have some assignments to complete over Spring Break.

For Coin Collecting: Please bring a coin booklet if you are already a collector.

For American Heritage: If you have Citizenship in the Nation, this is a relatively simple badge. Ms. Meyer will have some assignments for you to complete over Spring Break.
